Kanyadaan is one of the most vital rituals in Hindu Culture,
which is performed in conformity to Vedic scriptures. Gift of a girl', the literal meaning of
Kanyadaan, signifies the custom in which a girl is gifted by a father to a groom
being manglik or non manglik. This traditional ritual for manglik or non
manglik matrimony is performed before the Mangalphere and is believed to be as
Mahadaan as per the Hindu traditions & customs. Kanyadaan is believed to
relieve the bridal parents from every kind of sin and is known to bring good
fortune.
Kanyadaan is originated from the two words combination, ‘Kanya’
and ‘Daan’ where Kanya is meant for virgin and Daan is meant for donation.Here
the father places the right hand of his daughter being manglik or non manglik
girl to the right hand of the groom being manglik or non manglik boy(known as
Lord Vishnu at the marriage time) and the mother pours holy water on the palms
of bride and the groom. Then, the sacred verses are read. The father of the
bride asks the groom to promise that him that he would help his daughter in
accomplishing three significant goals of life for manglik or non manglik matrimony
that are:

Dharma
·
Artha
·
Kama
Once the verses are read, the beloved daughter is given away by the parents to the groom and she becomes responsibility of the groom and his family. Kanyadaan is both an emotional affair and the pious traditional ceremony where the father his duties and rights towards her beloved daughter to the groom. In case, the father of bride has expired or is not present at the marriage, due to any unavoidable situation then an elderly relative of the bride can perform the deed of Kanyadaan.
